Absence due to illness If
your child is ill and is not able to attend school then you must inform
the school's attendance officer as soon as possible, preferably by
telephone on the same day (the office switchboard will give you the
correct extension number where you can either speak to our attendance
officer or leave a message). If the school is not informed of your
child's absence then you will receive a telephone call from our
attendance officer. A written note on your child's return to school is
helpful in order to record reasons for absence. The school is then able
to record a child's absence as 'authorised'. If the school is not given
a reason for absence then the absence will be recorded as
'unauthorised' and counts as truancy. Persistent absence If
a child is persistently absent without a valid reason this will be
formally followed up by the school. Parents will be contacted and if
necessary asked to attend a meeting with the attendance officer and/or
the Headteacher. Persistent lack of attendance is also followed up by
Enfield's Educational Welfare Service, and in extreme cases legal
action may be taken. Special circumstances for absence during Term-Time
Holidays taken during school term-time are actively discouraged by the
DfES and schools are unable to condone absence due to family holidays.
In exceptional circumstances the Headteacher can agree up to 10 school
days for absence, which must include any religious observance days
taken during term-time. Any request for special absence must be put to
the Headteacher in writing. Any absence beyond an agreed time with the
school will be recorded as 'unauthorised' and will be reported and
formally followed up. Extended School Day At Cuckoo Hall we have worked hard to provide a range of extra-curricular activities and care for children beyond the school working day. These include:
• Breakfast Club Our
breakfast club is available for children before the start of school.
Children are supervised by two fully trained members of staff who
provide a healthy breakfast and encourage children to take part in
cooperative activities with others who attend. Please enquire at the
school office for further details of times and charges. • Lunchtime and after school clubs There
are a wide range of exciting clubs available for children both at
lunchtime and after school. These are run by volunteer school staff who
are committed towards providing children with enriched experiences that
cannot always be included during the school day. These clubs are being
continually developed and include: ICT, music, art/crafts, dance,
cooking, foreign languages, sports, gymnastics etc. Your child will be
given information about the clubs available to particular year groups.
There may be a small charge for some clubs to cover materials &
resources. |
