Medicines in School We cannot be responsible for medicines in school. Cough
medicines, lozenges etc. must not be sent for administering. If a child
is on antibiotics and well enough to come back to school, you may by
arrangement with the Headteacher come into school to administer the
medication. However, if your child is asthmatic an inhaler can be kept at school, clearly labelled with instructions for use. Important You
will be asked to complete an emergency contact form which must be
updated on a regular basis. It is extremely important that we are able
to contact you, or a relative, in an emergency. Contagious Diseases Whenever
possible, the school needs to know the nature of a child’s illness as
many infectious diseases such as measles, German measles, chickenpox,
whooping cough, mumps and tonsillitis have to be notified to the Area
Health Authority. When your child is ill Sick
children should not be sent to school. If your child is not well enough
to take part in P.E. or swimming he/she should be at home, unless there
are exceptional circumstances. If your child
has received any injury or treatment which has necessitated stitches or
a limb being put in plaster please consult the Headteacher before
he/she returns to school. Children who have been absent with vomiting and/or diarrhoea must not return until at least 24 hours after the last attack. If your child is taken ill or has an accident in school You
will be contacted immediately. If it is a minor injury i.e. a bump
after falling in the playground it will be treated in school by first
aid staff and a note will be sent home at the end of the day. Accident Procedures The
school provides very high quality care for all children at all times.
We ensure that staff levels are sufficiently high to supervise children
in their classrooms, in the playground, walking around the school and
when on trips. Our younger children are provided with higher levels of
pupil:staff ratios to accommodate their particular needs. The school
has a very high number of support staff, all of whom receive regular
first aid training. The school also has 2 designated Welfare Officers
who are available at all times during the school day. In
any school there will be accidents from time to time. All accidents are
recorded and acted upon. A more serious accident, or any bumps to the
head, are immediately reported to parents/carers by telephone (this is
why it is extremely important that you keep the school informed of your
contact details). A note will be sent home by welfare staff at the end
of the day if necessary. Headlice From
time to time there are outbreaks of headlice, which is common to all
schools. The treatment may change periodically, but it is essential
that headlice are treated as soon as possible because they spread so
quickly. Please inform the school office, class teacher or welfare
assistants if your child has headlice. |
